Gender Talk: Black Nourishment

Event Details

Join national food justice leader, organizer, priestess, writer, facilitator, DJ, and internationalist Black feminist Dara Cooper (also known as DJ Dandara) in a talk on Black nourishment and building a movement towards justice centering care. From our personal lives to our movement, our communities and beyond, it is important-urgent-that we center nourishment and reclaim the means to be well. But what does that mean? What does it mean to be nourished? To feel nourished? What does it mean to have a culture that centers nourishment and wellness as praxis? In addition to air and water, food is the most essential need for us all. What does justice look like if we were to center nourishment and care? In this talk, Dara argues how food justice is one of the most urgent-and rewarding-matters for a liberated, nourishing, revolutionary Black feminist future.

Our respondent is Nancy Gift from Sustainability and Environment Studies. We extend our gratitude to our co-sponsors: Agriculture and Natural Resources, African and African American Studies, and Sustainability and Environmental Studies.

Lunch will be served at 11:45 AM for attendees.
