The Shoppes on Estill

The Log House Craft Gallery is a 106-year old retail store whose mission has always been to support the work of independent artists, primarily in Appalachia.  Today, the Log House Craft Gallery represents craftspeople from Appalachia and throughout the world.  Behind the Log House sits another historic building that was the weaving studio of Berea College for 100 years.  Renovations have turned this historic space into an enchanting courtyard of shoppes, like the Taleless Dog Booksellers, and Get Outside Kentucky electric bike, canoe, and kayak rentals.

The Log House Craft Gallery

Handmade

The Log House Gallery is the oldest and largest continually run craft gallery in the state of Kentucky. It is home to the unique works of over 470 different artists from the Appalachian region and beyond, including the crafts made through our own Student Craft Program. Originally known as the “Log Palace", the present-day Log House Craft Gallery is a 68 x 40-foot plantation-style structure built in 1917 to honor the revival of colonial arts in the Southern Mountains. Today, as you wander throughout the cabin, you will find handmade treasures you will cherish forever. Originally built to support the artisans of Appalachia, the Log House Craft Gallery continues that mission today.

Berea College Student Craft

Crafting the Future

The lessons learned through the work of the hands complete the liberal arts education by nurturing the development of complete thinkers, those who remain intimately connected to the world around them. We invite you to browse our wood, weaving, broom, and ceramic products that our student craftspeople have made. You can experience them in person at the Visitor Center & Shoppe, the Log House Craft Gallery, or our production facility.
